$19.6M Bass Pro Shops Filing Sets November Start in Abilene

A 77,047 SF store registration sets out a November 15 construction-start target and November 2027 completion estimate for Rainy Creek’s anchor. The dates are filed estimates, not a confirmed groundbreaking.
Bass Pro Shops’ planned Abilene store now has a detailed state construction registration, identifying a $19.65 million ground-up project with a November 15, 2026 start target. The 77,047-square-foot building at 1755 East Stamford Street is intended to anchor the Rainy Creek mixed-use development.
The October 2 filing estimates completion on November 24, 2027. These are the owner-supplied dates for the registered work. They do not confirm that crews have mobilized, establish a guaranteed delivery deadline or announce the first day customers will be able to enter the store.

What is included in the registered building
TDLR project TABS2027002662 describes retail space, warehouse areas, an aquarium, an archery range, gun storage and back-of-house offices. Bass Pro Outdoor World, LLC is listed as owner. The scope combines customer-facing attractions with storage and operating functions, rather than describing a straightforward conversion of an existing shop.
TCH’s assessment is that those different uses make coordination between the building shell and specialist interiors important. Aquarium systems and customer attractions introduce interfaces that need to be planned alongside the ordinary retail fit-out. The filing does not provide a detailed package schedule, so specific procurement deadlines should not be inferred from the overall start date.
The latest filing differs from the original announcement
Bass Pro announced the Abilene Outpost on December 17, 2025 as a 72,000-square-foot destination, with an early-2027 opening expectation. The latest registered area is 5,047 square feet larger, and its late-November 2027 completion estimate is later than that original opening horizon.
Those differences should remain visible rather than combining the newest building size with the older opening promise. The records reviewed do not explain the area change or establish a replacement customer-opening date. A revised company announcement would be needed to settle when the store intends to begin trading.
Rainy Creek is a wider development
The original company announcement positions the store within a 35-acre mixed-use scheme near Interstate 20 and East Ambler Avenue. At the December 18 city meeting, Abilene described approximately 113,000 square feet of additional development outside the Bass Pro store, including retail, restaurants and a proposed fitness center.
The city also described an infrastructure agreement involving reconstruction of Griffith Road between Marathon Drive and East Stamford Street. These wider works matter to access and the surrounding development, but their scope and funding should not be folded automatically into the store’s $19.65 million registration.
What would turn the filed schedule into a construction milestone
The next useful update is confirmation of mobilization for the store itself, followed by a dated account of foundations, structural progress and building enclosure. Progress elsewhere at Rainy Creek does not necessarily establish that this particular package has started.
No general contractor or trade-contract appointment for the Abilene store has been confirmed in the material reviewed. Contractor portfolios for other Bass Pro locations do not establish involvement here. For now, the story is a defined construction filing and a forthcoming scheduled start, with the delivery team and revised opening date still to be established.
