Big Bend Border Work Faces Possible Scope Reduction
Federal officials are considering a smaller infrastructure scope, with a decision expected during the first week of October.
The federal government is considering reducing planned border-infrastructure work through Big Bend National Park. AP reported that CBP expects a decision in the first week of October following a pause in construction-related activity that began in August.
The remaining proposal has included roads, lighting, vehicle barriers and surveillance technology. Plans for a 30-foot bollard wall through the park had already been withdrawn.

A scope decision remains pending
The review could change the work eventually delivered, but it does not yet establish a final replacement scope or a confirmed restart date. A decision to reduce some elements should also be distinguished from cancellation of the entire program.
For construction readers, the immediate issue is uncertainty around scope and sequencing. Project-specific approvals and instructions will be needed before the status of individual packages can be stated with confidence.
