Tesla’s Giga Texas campus could gain another underground connection, with The Boring Company submitting plans for a single-lane tunnel beneath the Colorado River.

The proposal is named the Tesla Colorado River Tunnel. Drive Tesla reports that the connection would reach 1000-1/2 Fallwell Lane, with TBC Project Development identified as the applicant.

A return to the Colorado River crossing

The filing follows an earlier private-access tunnel proposal that did not advance. Reporting points to similarities with the 2022 plans, suggesting a renewed effort to establish a crossing near Tesla’s factory.

The current application does not give a tunnel length. Earlier concepts discussed a distance of approximately two miles, but that figure has not been confirmed for the latest proposal.

The intended use also remains undisclosed, including whether Tesla envisages further development at the River Road site. A confirmed construction timetable and budget have not been established in the information reviewed.

Tesla’s existing tunnel connection

Tesla already has an operating tunnel at Giga Texas. The Boring Company’s Cybertunnel moves finished Cybertrucks from the production line to a staging area across an eight-lane highway. The company says the journey takes around 60 seconds, compared with a previous twelve-minute drive on surface roads.

That completed factory connection is separate from the proposed river crossing. Tesla describes its Austin campus as a 2,500-acre manufacturing site with more than 10 million square feet of factory floor, producing Model Y and Cybertruck.
