The second phase entered commercial operation September 17, taking combined Bocanova power capacity to 300MW.

Nightpeak Energy has announced commercial operation of Bocanova 2 in Brazoria County, completing a second 150MW battery-storage phase. The October 13 announcement confirms that the project entered commercial service on September 17; it should not be described as first opening on the announcement date.

The installation provides 300MWh of stored energy, equivalent to two hours at its stated 150MW output. Together with the first Bocanova phase, which entered operation in August 2025, it brings the development’s combined power capacity to 300MW.

A completed storage project, rather than another proposal

The commercial-operation milestone places Bocanova 2 in a different category from projects awaiting permits, financing or construction. It indicates that the development has moved through delivery into its intended operating role in ERCOT.

Battery projects can supply electricity at a different time from when they charge. Their construction program combines storage equipment with power conversion, protection, controls and a grid connection. Those systems must operate together; the presence of battery enclosures alone would not establish readiness for commercial service.

Equipment and financial structure

Bocanova 2 uses Tesla Megapack 2 XL systems. MUFG provided construction-to-term and tax-equity bridge financing, while U.S. Bank supplied tax-equity investment. The announcement also refers to an offtake arrangement with an investment-grade counterparty that was not named.

Those roles should be kept separate. An equipment supplier, lender and offtaker do not automatically identify the engineering, procurement and construction contractor. A construction EPC appointment has not been independently confirmed in the material reviewed.

What the completion adds

The second phase adds an operating asset to the state’s storage fleet, rather than merely increasing a developer’s prospective pipeline. Its energy rating and power rating describe different aspects of that addition and should not be combined into a single capacity number.

A total project construction cost was not disclosed. Future reporting can track operating performance and any additional development, but the present milestone is the completion of the announced two-phase Bocanova program.
