EFC Breaks Ground on McGregor Campus Planned at $210M
The semiconductor-materials supplier has moved its 195-acre campus into the groundbreaking stage, with specialty gas production, laboratory and logistics functions in the announced development program.
EFC Gases & Advanced Materials held a groundbreaking ceremony in McGregor on September 15 and announced the milestone on September 21. The project advances a domestic supply-chain investment first announced in 2024 at $210 million; the latest release does not provide a revised capital budget.

Production and distribution on one campus
The original development program includes chemical synthesis for electronic gases and deposition precursors, specialty-gas transfill operations, a central laboratory, logistics facilities and administration. The city’s announced supporting work includes water and wastewater extensions and assistance with an industrial rail spur.
EFC describes the campus as a platform for longer-term expansion. Its latest announcement anticipates at least 65 full-time jobs in the initial phase. That initial-phase figure has a different scope from the 120-job expectation in the 2024 announcement and should not be presented as an identical measure.
Early contractor intelligence
EFC’s official groundbreaking photograph shows a project sign carrying Walker Partners, Kendrick Contracting, Schlosser and Hallam-ICS names alongside the owner and local partners. The sign provides useful evidence of project association, but it does not establish each firm’s contracted scope, contract value or role across the full campus.
The releases reviewed do not identify a single campus-wide general contractor or provide a package-by-package award list. Confirming civil engineering, building delivery, process design and specialist installation responsibilities remains an important next step for firms pursuing the work.
Trade opportunities and the next milestones
The announced process and handling functions suggest opportunities for civil utilities, foundations, building systems, specialty piping, electrical and instrumentation, laboratory fit-out and commissioning. These are construction implications of the published program, not an assertion that those packages are currently open for bidding.
For specialist contractors, the key questions concern process specifications, cleanliness requirements, hazardous-material controls and the boundary between vendor-supplied equipment and field installation. A building’s practical completion may precede production qualification, so the two milestones should be confirmed separately.
The latest announcement does not supply a commissioning date, building floor area or annual production capacity. Those omissions leave the procurement sequence and production ramp-up timetable unresolved.
