The announced 24-bed Conroe hospital targets late 2027, followed by a 60-bed replacement facility on the existing Woodlands campus in 2029.

Encompass Health has announced two Montgomery County hospital projects, expanding inpatient rehabilitation capacity through a Conroe satellite and a replacement hospital in The Woodlands.

The September 24 announcement describes Conroe as the company’s first small-format hospital, with 24 beds and a late-2027 opening target. The Woodlands replacement is planned for 60 beds and a 2029 opening.

Construction Beside an Operating Hospital

The Woodlands project is planned on the existing campus, with construction arranged so the current hospital can continue serving patients. The replacement will provide private patient rooms.

TCH scope assessment: maintaining access, separating work areas and sequencing utility connections are important considerations for a hospital built alongside ongoing clinical operations. These constraints can affect logistics and commissioning as much as the building’s size.

A Filing Requires Reconciliation

A September 15 Conroe registration, TABS2027001120, lists 52,500 square feet, estimated cost of $16.67 million and scheduled work from December 14, 2026 to November 22, 2027. It names Gresham Smith as designer and GCP Loan Subsidiary 1 LP as owner of record.

The filing’s scope text refers to a 50-inpatient facility, which differs from Encompass’s later 24-bed announcement. TCH is retaining the company’s 24-bed figure for the announced hospital and treating the filing’s dimensions, cost and program as a separate record requiring clarification. These records should not be combined into a supposedly confirmed final design.

Contractor and Trade Outlook

A general contractor and major subcontractors are not identified in the reviewed company release. Potential areas of work include site development, structure, interiors, HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, controls and healthcare commissioning. Actual procurement opportunities depend on confirmed designs and package releases.
