$320M Filing Details George R. Brown Convention Center Buildout

The 700,000-square-foot filing covers interior work and part of the exterior envelope within the broader convention-center expansion.
A $320 million construction registration sets out the buildout scope for the George R. Brown Convention Center expansion. The filing covers approximately 700,000 square feet at 1001 Avenida de las Americas and lists a September 2026 to September 2028 construction window.
The registered scope includes interiors for the previously submitted core-and-shell package and the exterior envelope of the multipurpose building. The expansion is part of the broader $2 billion George R. Brown Convention Center and convention-district transformation. The $320 million buildout filing covers one package within that multiyear program, rather than the entire transformation.

Scope and Schedule Need to Be Read Together
An earlier structural and civil package was reported at approximately $138.1 million. The filings describe different components, so their values should not be presented as a complete project budget without reconciling the boundaries.
Houston First separately targets May 2028 for GRB Houston South’s opening. The September completion date in this buildout registration differs from that public target. Neither date should be silently substituted for the other, and a filed start date does not by itself establish field progress.
Delivery Team and Trade Scope
Houston First is the owner and Populous is the registered design firm. The Phase 1 general-contractor team and delivery timeline are available in the members-only Project Insight.
TCH scope assessment: interiors and envelope work create potential requirements for partitions, finishes, glazing, roofing interfaces, mechanical and electrical distribution, fire protection, controls and commissioning. Individual trade awards and remaining procurement dates still require package-specific confirmation.
