NRC completes safety review of Dow's Long Mott nuclear plant at Seadrift

The four-reactor, 320MWe X-energy project for Dow's Calhoun County site has moved to the final stage of its construction permit review.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has completed its safety review of the Long Mott Generating Station, a proposed advanced nuclear plant at Dow's Seadrift Operations in Calhoun County. The NRC issued its Final Safety Evaluation Report on Oct. 30 and indicated a construction permit decision is expected soon.
The applicant is Long Mott Energy, a Dow subsidiary. The plant would use four X-energy Xe-100 high-temperature gas-cooled reactors with a combined 800MWt, or 320MWe.
The plant would supply power to Dow's Seadrift site, with surplus electricity going to the grid.
Long Mott Energy filed its construction permit application in March 2025. The NRC issued an environmental assessment and a finding of no significant impact in May 2026, clearing the environmental side of the review.
X-energy supplies the reactor technology. No engineering, procurement and construction contractor, project cost or construction schedule has been disclosed.
The review comes as Texas weighs a growing pipeline of nuclear proposals to meet rising industrial and data center power demand.
