The West Campus facility combines teaching, research and meat-processing functions in an approximately 85,600-square-foot development.

Texas A&M’s Meat Science and Technology Center is advancing through a construction program valued at approximately $133.36 million, commonly rounded to $133.4 million.

Groundbreaking was announced in May. The latest reported state filing lists a September 30 construction-window start and February 2028 completion. The later filed schedule should not be confused with the first groundbreaking on the wider project.

Research Meets Food Production

The center will combine laboratories, classrooms and meat-processing spaces, supporting livestock and poultry programs. Public-facing facilities and a retail outlet will connect its work with the wider community.

A building of this kind requires closely coordinated temperature control, hygienic services, utility distribution and equipment connections. These technical interfaces extend beyond a conventional classroom fit-out.

Two Published Size Figures

The overall project announcement describes 85,600 square feet. The recent filing is reported at 77,902 square feet. The available material does not establish that this difference represents a reduction in the overall building.

The $133.4 million figure is the overall investment, rather than the value of a single trade package.

Utilities and Delivery

An identified underground hydronic utility package covers approximately 18,000 feet of piping. It is a significant infrastructure interface between the new center and the campus services that support it.
