$197.9M I-20/SH 31 Interchange Construction Advances in Longview

Indus Road and Bridge is replacing left-hand exits with right-hand exits and adding direct connections at the Gregg County junction.

Construction is continuing on the $197.9 million I-20 and SH 31 interchange reconstruction in Longview. TxDOT’s November 2 update identifies ongoing right-of-way clearing and interchange work, with Indus Road and Bridge delivering the project and completion targeted for May 2030.

The redesign replaces the interchange’s left-hand exits with right-hand exits. It also adds direct connectors, changing how traffic moves between I-20 and SH 31. The new exit layout requires work across the junction, where new ramp and bridge alignments must connect to the existing highways.

The contract also includes additional bridges over I-20 and the Union Pacific Railroad. That puts road and rail crossings within the same reconstruction program. The bridge work and new connections are the permanent changes drivers will see when the interchange is complete. The current right-of-way clearing prepares space for those changes while other interchange work progresses.

The November update records progress on the existing contract. It does not give a bridge-by-bridge construction schedule or identify the structural and specialty subcontractors. The May 2030 target applies to the overall project, with individual traffic shifts and structure work expected to follow the construction sequence.
