$348M I-30 Expansion Reaches Horizon Road Bridge Connection Stage
A scheduled October 16–19 closure allows crews to connect new lanes, with the wider corridor expansion still targeting early 2028 completion.
TxDOT has scheduled a full closure of the Horizon Road bridge at I-30 while crews build connections to new lanes, marking another traffic-switch stage in the approximately $348 million Rockwall County corridor expansion. The closure is scheduled from 10 p.m. Friday, October 16, until 5 a.m. Monday, October 19, weather permitting.
The agency expects drivers to encounter a changed traffic pattern and new frontage-road connections when the bridge reopens. As of this October 18 update, the published reopening time remains a target; it is not confirmation that the bridge has reopened.

A connection milestone within ongoing construction
Rockwall County’s traffic notice says crews will construct temporary connections during the closure, with additional lanes expected to be available afterward if work proceeds as planned. Drivers are being directed to signed detours and current road-condition information.
The work is part of an existing expansion program, rather than a new $348 million contract announcement. A weekend traffic switch can open a useful portion of infrastructure while major corridor work continues elsewhere.
The wider corridor
TxDOT describes the overall program as widening I-30, providing continuous frontage roads between SH 205 and the Hunt County line, and adding frontage-road bridges across Lake Ray Hubbard. The agency’s October 14 notice retains an early 2028 completion expectation.
That broader scope involves highway capacity, local access and bridge connections. The Horizon Road works are one stage in delivering those changes and should not be confused with completion of the full interstate corridor.
What to track after the closure
The immediate milestone is confirmation that the scheduled connection work and traffic switch are complete. Subsequent updates should track permanent lane configurations, frontage-road continuity and any changes to the early 2028 target.
The reviewed traffic notices do not identify a new contractor award. They establish the active construction activity and expected road-user impacts, while detailed procurement and package responsibilities require separate contract records.
