The proposed development would combine hydrogen production, fuel-cell electricity generation and carbon storage.

HDF Energy has selected Topsoe to provide technology for BaseBlue Power, a proposed West Texas development designed to generate approximately 250MW of electricity.

The project would use Permian Basin natural gas to manufacture around 400 tonnes of hydrogen daily. That hydrogen would supply fuel-cell systems producing electricity for a market facing growing demand from large users, including data centers.

The planned infrastructure extends beyond power generation. BaseBlue Power would also include carbon capture, compression and underground storage systems designed to manage approximately 1.1 million tonnes of carbon dioxide each year.

Technology selection gives the development a more defined technical direction, although the precise West Texas site remains undisclosed.

HDF Energy is targeting operations in 2030. The company has not disclosed an investment value, construction start or EPC contractor, and the announcement does not establish a final investment decision.

The proposal brings together several major infrastructure components within one development: gas processing, hydrogen production, electricity generation and carbon management.
