Kerrville Clears Planning Hurdle for $7M–$10M Travel Center

The Texan’s proposed development near Highway 16 and I-10 secures conditional-use approval, with construction dates and the delivery team still to be confirmed.

Kerrville City Council approved a conditional-use permit on October 13 for a proposed The Texan travel center, fuel station and truck-stop development near Highway 16 North and Interstate 10. The project covers approximately 12.43 acres and carries a reported investment range of $7 million to $10 million.

The council action is an entitlement milestone. It should not be read as confirmation that construction has begun or that a general contractor has been appointed. A firm construction calendar was not established in the reviewed material.

A proposal with significant site infrastructure

The development combines a retail building with vehicle circulation, fuel infrastructure and parking for different types of traffic. The location near an interstate interchange makes access and the relationship between truck and passenger-vehicle movements central to the site layout.

Earlier local coverage of the planning review described a building of approximately 20,000 square feet. That September material provides background to the application; final construction documents and the conditions attached to the council approval will determine the delivered scope.

Planning review preceded the council decision

The proposal went before Kerrville’s Planning and Zoning Commission in September under case PZ-2026-16. The review involved conditional uses for convenience-store fuel sales and truck-stop activities near a floodplain. The commission’s recommendation and the October council decision are separate steps in the same application.

The earlier review described conditions addressing parking expansion, screening and compliance with the city’s supplementary standards. The council-approved instrument should be consulted before assuming that every earlier design detail or condition remained unchanged.

Construction appointments remain the next update

A confirmed start date, construction team and final site package would move this story beyond entitlement. Underground services, fuel-system work, drainage and building construction will need to be coordinated as the project progresses.

The reported investment is a development estimate, not a disclosed construction award. Keeping that distinction clear will make it possible to compare the eventual contract and schedule with the proposal approved by the city.
