LBJ Hospital Expansion Passes 4M Construction Hours

Harris Health’s Houston campus expansion is advancing hospital interiors, utility systems and parking infrastructure ahead of planned operations in early 2029.

Harris Health’s LBJ Hospital Campus Expansion surpassed 4 million construction person-hours in September, according to its October project update.

Work is progressing across the John M. O’Quinn Hospital, Central Utility Plant and visitor parking garage. McCarthy Building Companies is part of the hospital construction team, with HKS involved in design.

Hospital crews are advancing MEP installations and interior finishes through Level 13. Electrical energization, elevators, enclosure work and campus connections are also progressing.

At the utility plant, piping and equipment installation continue. Domestic water tank testing is complete, and CenterPoint vault transformers have been delivered.

Contractual substantial completion is targeted for September 2028, with the first patient scheduled for January 15, 2029.
