Denton Advances Review of Proposed Data Center Moratorium

The October 27 council agenda included a second public hearing and first reading of a proposed temporary pause on certain data center applications.

Denton is progressing its review of a proposed data center moratorium, with the second public hearing and first ordinance reading listed for the October 27 City Council meeting.

The proposal would pause the acceptance, processing and approval of certain new data center development applications. Staff have identified water and wastewater capacity, electricity infrastructure and development regulations as grounds for the measure.

The published program proposes an initial 90-day pause, with a possible additional 90-day extension. Adoption would require a three-fourths council majority.

The city’s timetable identifies December 1 for the second reading and consideration of final adoption. The October agenda represents another stage in that process; final adoption has not been confirmed.
