The Pawnee Carbon Sequestration Project will combine compression, transportation and underground injection infrastructure in Bee County.

Ozona CCS and Marubeni Corporation have reached a final investment decision on the Pawnee Carbon Sequestration Project in Bee County.

The 50/50 joint venture will collect carbon dioxide from a StarTex Field Services natural gas treating facility, compress it and transport it for permanent underground storage. Ozona will construct and operate the facilities.

Plans include converting the existing O’Neal Gas Unit No. 4 well to injection service. The well and associated storage area have potential capacity of approximately 400,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually.

An injection test into the Sligo Formation was successful. First injection is targeted for the first quarter of 2027.

Marubeni will lead marketing and commercialization of the carbon credits generated by the project. The partners are also evaluating additional Texas opportunities, while Pawnee could expand as further carbon dioxide sources are connected.
