CBRE Makes $1 Billion Move Into Data Center Infrastructure
The Onnec agreement combines about $610 million upfront with up to $400 million tied to future growth.
CBRE has agreed to acquire Onnec Group in a transaction that could reach approximately $1 billion, expanding its technical data-center infrastructure business. The agreement provides for roughly $610 million in initial cash consideration and up to $400 million in additional payments linked to growth thresholds.
The maximum value is not an unconditional payment at closing. The distinction matters when comparing the deal with other acquisitions: part of the consideration depends on future performance, and the transaction remains subject to customary regulatory approvals.

Moving deeper into the infrastructure inside data centers
Onnec provides data-center infrastructure services in Europe and Asia Pacific. Its work extends CBRE’s capability in the technical environment inside facilities, complementing the company’s earlier move into the sector through Direct Line. The acquisition is therefore about operating capability as well as geographic reach.
For the construction market, data-center development does not end with completion of the building shell. Technical infrastructure has its own installation, coordination and service requirements. A business that supports those functions participates in a different part of the value chain from a developer selling land or a contractor building the structure.
Dallas connection, international acquisition
CBRE’s announcement was issued from Dallas, but Onnec is UK-based and the stated expansion is concentrated in Europe and Asia Pacific. The deal should not be presented as a $1 billion Texas construction project or as confirmation of a new local data-center campus.
The relevant Texas angle is the strategic direction of a major Dallas-headquartered business and its growing exposure to data-center services. Any specific Texas project awards would require separate evidence.
What happens before the deal becomes a completed acquisition
CBRE expects completion around the end of 2026, subject to the required approvals. Until closing is confirmed, the appropriate description is an agreed acquisition rather than a completed takeover.
The next milestones are transaction completion and any subsequent information about integration and service delivery. The earnout should continue to be identified as contingent. This preserves the significance of the move without confusing a possible maximum transaction value with cash already paid or work already awarded.
