Perot Museum Launches $185M Campaign for Dallas Campus Expansion

A four-acre transformation adds outdoor science exhibits, visitor facilities and a parking garage, with construction planned for early 2027.
The Perot Museum of Nature and Science has unveiled a major expansion of its downtown Dallas campus, supported by a $185 million capital campaign. Announced October 20, the project will transform approximately four acres and add a 60,000-square-foot outdoor science environment alongside improvements to existing facilities.
The campaign total should not be presented as the construction-contract value. Approximately $155 million has been reported as allocated to the physical expansion, with the rest supporting other campaign objectives. About $135 million of the overall fundraising goal has been raised.

The expansion is planned around approximately 25 large-scale interactive exhibits and demonstrations, with landscaping and water features integrated into the visitor experience. This is more than a conventional open lawn: the program combines public space, specialized exhibits and the systems needed to operate them.
The wider scope includes a five-story parking garage and changes to the entrance, lobby, education and event areas. These elements connect the outdoor program to the existing museum and affect how visitors arrive, move through the campus and use its facilities.
A defined team and a planned construction window
The museum’s own project page identifies a general contractor, design architect, architect of record, landscape architect and development manager. The verified team is available in the member section below. Those appointments give this proposal a clearer delivery structure than an early concept with no named construction partner.
Groundbreaking is planned for early 2027, with opening anticipated in late 2028. The museum labels the dates as subject to change. They describe the current program, not proof that construction has started or an unconditional completion commitment.
What to watch as design becomes construction
The next practical milestones are the confirmed start, the sequence for work around the operating museum and any announced specialist delivery packages. Exhibit systems, public-space construction and building improvements will need to be coordinated, but the announcement does not identify every installing subcontractor.
For Dallas, the expansion represents a substantial civic and visitor-infrastructure investment. Its construction significance comes from the combination of built facilities, landscape works and specialized science installations, rather than from treating the full fundraising target as one undivided construction award.
